January Carboot Sale postponed one week

The Toejam January Carboot Sale has been postponed for one week, from January 16th to the new date of Saturday January 23rd.

This was in response to lots of emails we got about it.  People looking for a bit more breathing space after Christmas and of course people who’d prefer not to stand outside in -7.

So, we postponed it for one week to allow for a bit of a thaw and let people get geared back up after the December Crazee.

If you have already applied for the January 16th Carboot Sale then your grand, your application still stands.  If you havnt applied and would like to, then just go along here and follow the link to the application form.

Thanks!

Media whore

Happy Christmas to all Toejammers out there.  Here’s a little gift of a video of GBS launching a new plane back in the 30’s, dropping a few one liners and generally just being a media whore.

The Chinese…a great bunch of lads

Spose this is the official Toejam Christmas bash, a day late but nonetheless, a dame fine party if last year is anything to go by.  Tanked up revellers on the happiest day of the year, full of slow booze and leftover food.  Good times ahoy.

Check out all the details about Father Ted Day at The Bernard Shaw here

Fight fire with fire and use the internet to top yourself online.  That is, kill all your online Facebook/MySpace/LinkedIn etc profiles and go back to the simple life.

Truck-u-like

Ace realism paintings by Brooklyn artist Kevin Cyr (also responsible for this bicycle/RV mongrel) of battered old mostly American trucks and delivery vans, tags and all.

Here’s more to feast your eyes on:

Yaay for the environment

Chevy unveils their new futuristic Volt car to the world.  A car powered with, wait for it…batteries.

This dance is so entirely irrelevant and almost mocking of the car (imagine you were the crew who worked on this project and this is how your bosses presented it) that you wonder whether they are subtly trying to undermime the car and its sales so they can go ‘told ya so’ and g back to the business of making 10L jet turbine SUV’s for real men (and mom).  Either that or they have stumbled on a viral masterpiece.

Electric Wire Hustle

3 Kiwis from New Zealand knocking out some exceptional future funk.  Unsurprisingly championed by the likes of Benji B, these guys are cut from the same cloth as The Black Seeds but with a bit of Steve Spacek or even a bit of J Dilla on the production thrown in.

Check out the slick vid below for their latest track perception (which samples Inside my Love by Minie Ripperton)

Here’s their MySpace

Streetview

An exhibition of screen grabs from Google Streetview around the world by Jon Rafman.  The mind boggles at how many miles he traveled sitting at his desk over 12 months looking for this stuff.  Captivating exhibition mind and you can read about it at Artfagcity below.

Taking bookings now

It’s easy to take this for granted or be a bit cynical about it with the pace of technology development these days but it is now possible to book a flight to space.  Just read that again, you can book a flight to space.  Just go to virgingalactic.com and book your seat in the same way that you might book a flight on Ryanair to Bristol.

The people carrying Spaceship 2 is still in testing and the price tag is still expensive at $200,000 but its a few quid shy of the €30,000,000 or so that various tycoons have been paying in the last 10 years to hitch a ride aboard Russian space missions.

Spaceship 2, the world’s first commercial spacecraft, will start flights from the Virgin Spaceport in New Mexico from next year with evil genius and project funder Richard Branson booked on to the first flight with his family.

Incredible stuff.

The future is here…again

Its not a Notebook, its not a Tablet, it’s a ‘Booklet’ and Microsoft are apparently putting the same effort into it that they put into the Xbox, and that didnt do so bad.

It also exists in the real word, even though the video is obviously an animation of sorts, but various nerd sites tell us it’s nowhere near the production stage.   But, with the competitiveness out there you can safely bet you will be seeing this in the not so distant future.

The workflow on this, if it’s as good as their idealized video here, is pretty amazing, bridging the divide between paper and screen pretty successfully and intuitively.

Taylor McFerrin – Live at Toejam

taylor_webad

Powerful stuff genetics. Taylor Mc Ferrin, son of the man who gave us ‘Dont worry be Happy’ and ‘Thinkin’ about your body’ plays a live show at Toejam in The Bernard Shaw next Saturday.

We’re going to turn this into an all-dayer aswell, kicking off with a Red Bull Music Academy discussion with Taylor and others around 4:30pm, followed by the Choice Cuts (our co-hosts on this one) lads holding court until Taylor comes on later in the evening with his one man show.

Taylor McFerrin is the son of classical conductor and vocalist Bobby McFerrin. Taylor is a forward thinking human beat-box, capable of reproducing an array of bass, percussion and studio effects with unerring fidelity. Heavily championed by Gilles Peterson and soul/house enthusiasts around the globe, Taylor has released his music labels like Brownswood, Blue Note, Big Dada and the now defunct Rude.

Following in the footsteps of his father, Taylor is an extremely talented artist originally hailing from San Francisco but residing in Brooklyn. Taylor just announced a special free show in The Bernard Shaw on Saturday 21st November which will be announced in full next week.

We will have more details like set times and DJs in coming days, but for the moment click around some of the links in this post, stick it in your diary and tell your friends. And dont forget, its Free.

In the mean time, Here is an exclusive free download, spread the word and see you on Saturday 21st,

On what charges?

more about “On what charges?“, posted with vodpod

New developements in the crazee world of street art. Plenty of potential in this.”Multimedia performers Sweatshoppe have been wheat pasting buildings with moving images all over New York. Mapping video projections to LED-lit paint rollers, Sweatshoppe lay their projections on a surface, paint-stroke by paint stroke. They call new digital performance style “Video Painting”.How it works: The software controlling the video was written in Max. The paint roller does not use any sort of paint, it simply contains green LEDs. The software tracks the color green and outputs the x y position which are sent to drawing commands and the strokes are textured with video.Sweatshoppe is video artists Bruno Levy and Blake Shaw. They plan on eventually releasing the software, but only after it is much more refined, buffed up with features and is user-friendly.”
