Blessed with a disproportionate amount of talent from a young age, Dublin born, London living Johnny Kelly speaks at It’s Nice That‘s monthly talks about a few of his projects. An illustrator first and foremost, Johnny’s graduate video ‘Procrastination’ won him acclaim and alot of attention, having gone on to work for BMW, The United Nation’s and Adobe on ad campaigns (even getting to meet George Clooney in the process…swoon…)
Anyway, an interesting video from an interesting man, have a look. You can also read a full interview and see his Procrastination and The Seed videos on Bodytonicmusic.com
Like Cagney & Lacey, Hart to Hart, Hall & Oates…Nic & Eno were two peas in a Pod. Eno was ying to Nic James’ yang but alas two years ago Eno upped sticks and moved to London, grew a beard and got serious.
Warrior One is his current project, Toejam resident DJ Nic James will take it from here… If you went out to pubs and clubs in Dublin about three or four years ago then you almost certainly heard the famous Eno DJ at some point. I met Eno in one of those weird after hours ‘art’ parties they used to (and occasionally still) have in shops and warehouses just off Capel street where he was playing old school rap and sixties rock to crusty ravers. Since then he’s played at almost every venue in Dublin, changing his mind weekly about what style of music he’s going to play ‘from now on…’. Eno is now over in Bow E3, in London town, making some fantastic music that’s getting love from DJs and clubbers across the UK’s capital. Warrior One is Eno, and Carl from Blackgrass (off of Brighton’s Catskills label), and their tunes take the sounds of minimalist baltimore club tracks by people like DJ Blaqstarr and the skippy rhythms of (UK) Funky and make something that sounds properly new and unique. They’ve got some great vocalists in studio, right now at this very minute versioning the riddims so I’m expecting some kind K.I.G. Family novelty dance based hit at the very least. Check the MySpace for the new tracks and as soon as all the record business business is sorted out I’ll post up some new stuff for download.

Definitley in our top 5 summer tunes of the moment, Erland Oye’s project The Whitest Boy Alive get their ‘1517’ tune worked over by Metro Area’s Morgan Geist with the end product being one of the best things he has produced in a while. Staying true to what makes the original such an uplifting tune but plonking it squarley between Metro Area’s NYC and Carl Craig’s recent Detroit stylings. We likeee.
Before you download anything though, have a look at this happy clappy video of Whitest Boy Alive playing ‘1517’ live in a shop window in Berlin. Could you imagine this happening in Dublin?! Peacefull people having a little jig…the riot rozzers would be out in force, sans their lapels, battoning these music loving terrorists back into their boxes, with the tabloids screaming ‘Hippy art students on ecstacy sex drugs bring city to standstill, Gardai quell unrest with force’
Tim Burton gets his mitts on Alice in Wonderland. With a cast including Johnny Depp and Matt Lucas (as a Tweedie) were expecting more dark surrealism when it hits the cinema’s on 5th March 2010 with a wave of hype no doubt.

A design competition entry from a few months back, Light Lane was taken seriously by Boston based Altitude Inc and is now in the early stages of production. Mounted on the back of your saddle pole like a regular led light (infact it is a regular led light aswell), two laser beams are projected down on the ground to your side clearly marking your space so nobody gets all up in your grill. Can see this being very handy on the Dublin daily dabble with suicide that is cycling home from work in the autumn/winter.
